This is a sobering thought. When we look at sleep there are two components that are important, how much sleep we get and the quality, or health, of that sleep.

The needs of sleep are also different for Teens when compared to adults. Not only do they need more sleep, 8 to 11 hours with 9 or more being optimal, but their sleep looks different. Their deep sleep stage is much larger than an adults. Deep sleep is where we process are memories of the day, moving memories from short to long term storage. It is also where 'pruning' takes place and our brain development occurs.

Performance in sports is linked to how well and how much you are sleeping. Reduce your sleep and you are more prone to injuries and your healing effectiveness is reduced.

I don't want to get my sleep tested because I don't want a CPAP.
